No councillor should receive an allowance of over £1290 per minute

Local Labour councillors have reacted angrily to the news that a councillor on Tendring District Council has received the equivalent of £1293.25 per minute for sitting in the public gallery and watching a meeting of a council committee. Under the rules governing councillors’ attendance at meetings a councillor is required to attend a meeting at least once every six months but, at present, this can simply be as an observer. Harwich and District Branch Labour Party has responded to the concerns of local residents by launching a petition calling for immediate action to improve the appalling condition of the A120 The petition, which will be collected in both written and electronic form, states: ‘The undersigned call on the Department for Transport to end the delays to the resurfacing of the A120 between Harwich and Horsley Cross as the road surface is in such poor repair that it is resulting in serious damage to vehicles and is placing at risk the safety of those using it.’ It has attracted over 1200 … Read more

AGM recognises a busy year for Harwich Branch Labour

Members of Harwich Branch Labour Party packed the Acorn Suite at the Royal Oak public house on Thursday 11th January for the branch’s AGM. Reports from branch officers confirmed that membership is high and still growing, successful fund raising has ensured a healthy bank balance and strong campaigning has brought genuine benefits to the local community.
