RESIDENTS are being urged to call the police if they witness further vandalism at a park in a bid to secure its future. Vandals have targeted Bathside Bay play park a number of times in recent years. In 2017, a wooden pirate ship worth about £10,000 was set on fire at the site in Stour Road, Harwich. Months later a slide was built in its place by Tendring Council, which owns and maintains the site. But the park had its trampoline burnt down by yobs last month. The most recent incident involved hoodlums ripping down eight panels of metal fencing … Read more
From: Cllr. Maria Fowler Sent: 07 August 2019 09:06 To: Cllr. Michael Talbot, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Public Spaces Subject: Refuse Collection Service Dear Cllr. Talbot, As shadow to the portfolio holder for the Environment and Public Spaces I was both amazed and furious at your failure to offer a statement to the members of Tendring District Council on the new refuse collection services at last night’s meeting of TDC. There is genuine concern amongst members on both sides of the chamber that you have forced in Tendring’s first ever ‘amount restricted’ refuse collection service and reduced collections to … Read more
Labour’s Pam Morrison beats her predecessor by 12 years! At last night’s meeting of TDC full council Labour’s Pam Morrison exposed the Tory led administration’s failure to tackle the issue of dog fouling with questions that totally exposed the inadequacy of the portfolio holder, Cllr. Michael Talbot’s, handling of the distasteful and ever growing problem. In so doing she beat her predecessor, Conservative Ricky Callender, by 12 years in that during his entire time as a TDC councillor he did not speak in debate, place a question on the full council agenda or propose a motion. Every TDC councillor serving … Read more
How much is fly tipping costing TDC? That is the question being asked by Harwich Town councillor, Geoff Smith, as he is seeing instances of fly tipping increasing throughout the Harwich Peninsula. Cllr. Smith believes the problem is getting worse and intends to ask his colleagues on Tendring District Council to table a question to TDC’s portfolio holder for the Environment, Cllr. Michael Talbot, to establish the cost to the council. Cllr. Geoff Smith says, “Fly tipping must be costing TDC a fortune and that means our council tax is being spent clearing up someone else’s mess. It is costly, … Read more
GRASS and weeds are being left to grow through roads and pavements causing a conservation area to look like a “complete mess”. Church Street and West Street in Harwich, referred to as Historic Harwich to highlight its heritage, have weeds growing through the edges of the pavement and the cobble stone gutters. Harwich deputy mayor Ivan Henderson has called for action, slamming the council for failing to keep the area today. He said: “It looked dreadful at mayor making. We had a cruise ship in and they would have seen all this. “It’s a conservation area for goodness sake.” Mr … Read more
Local Labour councillors have reacted angrily to the news that a councillor on Tendring District Council has received the equivalent of £1293.25 per minute for sitting in the public gallery and watching a meeting of a council committee. Under the rules governing councillors’ attendance at meetings a councillor is required to attend a meeting at least once every six months but, at present, this can simply be as an observer. Conservative councillor, Andrew Massey, has complied with this requirement by sitting in the public gallery as an observer of a Local Council Tax Committee meeting which began at 10AM on … Read more
