Harwich’s Labour TDC councillors have met with council officers to seek further assurances over the use of the £100,000 of S106 funding generated by the Capital House development in Dovercourt. Concerns were raised recently when a list of S106 allocations was issued and this particular contribution was shown as being allocated towards an ‘affordable housing’ project in Clacton. At a meeting in Harwich on Wednesday, assurances were given that the sum in question was no longer allocated for the Clacton project and is available to be used in the Harwich area. It was on Wednesday, April 30th local Labour councillors were contacted by the Clacton Gazette to say the Gazette was in possession of a leaked document indicating that the Tories running Essex County Council intend to close our tip (Household Waste Recycling Centre) in West End Lane, Dovercourt. The Tories crazy thinking is to create a system under which no one has to travel more than 10 miles to dispose of their rubbish and the residents of Harwich, Dovercourt, Ramsey and Parkeston could do this at Lawford. Labour councillors in Harwich West Ward have reacted to residents’ concerns over a failure to secure the gates to Dovercourt cemetery outside of opening hours. The gates to the cemetery which control vehicular access are being left wide open at all times in spite of the published position on TDC’s web site which states: ‘In Clacton on Sea and Dovecourt cemeteries vehicular access will be permitted Monday to Friday inclusive between 7.30AM and 4PM. At weekends and Bank Holidays vehicular access at Clacton on Sea and Dovercourt cemeteries will be permitted between the hours of 10AM and 4.30PM. West Ward … Read more
