The Labour group of Tendring District Councillors has reacted angrily to a press release issued by TDC in which the Portfolio Holder for Finance and Transformation, Cllr. Tom Howard, calls for all members of the council to come forward with their ideas on how to deal with George Osborne’s cuts to local government budgets.
The TDC press release states:
‘TDC’s Finance and Transformation Cabinet Member Tom Howard threw down the gauntlet at a Cabinet Meeting on Friday.
And he urged them to put forward their ideas as quickly as possible.
“It is a timely opportunity to stress the very difficult budget cycles the Council faces in 2017/18 and beyond,” he told the meeting.
“I urge all Members to put forward their own ideas of how we can find the necessary savings to balance the budget.’
The demand from Cllr Howard that all parties help to implement the Conservative government’s cuts being imposed by George Osborne has received an angry response from the Labour group.
Leader of the Labour group on TDC, Cllr. Ivan Henderson, says, “Cllr Howard has chosen to support a Conservative led administration that is delivering Conservative government cuts to the Tendring District. He should take responsibility for his actions rather than try to get everyone else to do his dirty work for him.”
