Harwich Branch of the Labour Party is pleased to confirm that Ivan Henderson will be Labour’s candidate in the Harwich Division at the forthcoming elections for Essex County Council.
Ivan had already been reselected as Labour’s candidate ready for the expected Essex County Council elections scheduled for May 2025 but, while disappointed that it was necessary to postpone those elections, Harwich Branch Labour Party fully agrees that to waste many millions of pounds on an election that was only going to elect councillors for 12 months would have been a dreadful waste of council tax payers money and would have been nothing more than political posturing when finances are tight.
Ivan Henderson says, “Now that Local Government Reorganisation has been further delayed it is important that these elections go ahead and voters locally have the opportunity to have their say. It would have been a dreadful waste of money to spend millions of pounds electing councillors for only 12 months and those who were calling for this only showed why they are unfit to be in charge of the purse strings.”
Harwich Branch Labour Party is very proud of Ivan’s record as our local Essex County Councillor over the last thirteen years and believe they have a very strong message of local achievements to take on to the doorstep during the election campaign.
Bill Davidson, chair of Harwich and District Branch Labour Party, says, “The £9 million redevelopment of the Kingsway in Dovercourt town centre is only the latest major investment that Ivan Henderson has played a part in bringing to our community. Ivan knows that there is more to getting things done than simply shouting about what you think is wrong and from the safety improvements on the A120 to the major local employment opportunities created by Freeport East, Ivan continues to deliver for us locally.”
