The Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Tom Watson MP, will be the main speaker at a fundraising dinner at the Tower Hotel in Dovercourt on Friday evening.

Tom Watson knows how effective Harwich Labour Party is in standing up for the needs of the local community and how hard it campaigns to provide strong and positive representation for local people.

He was approached by Ivan and Jo Henderson at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton in September and was pleased to agree to speak at the fundraising event.

Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Tom Watson, said: “Harwich Labour Party has established a hard-won reputation for standing up for Labour values and running effective and innovative campaigns. Campaigning costs money and it’s great to be speaking at this sell-out event to raise funds for the party as we prepare for another round of crucial elections”.

The election in May for the Police and Crime Commissioner and the EU referendum vote takes place the following month. Local elections for Essex County Council take place in 2017.

ASLEF General Secretary, Mick Whelan, is also speaking at the dinner which has attracted Labour members from across North Essex and beyond.

Watson added: “The local Tories are fighting each other and even UKIP is split. It is only the Labour Party that is offering a strong, united voice on behalf of ordinary people across the Tendring District”

“Whether it is fighting to keep local full time fire-fighters or campaigning for the UK to stay stronger, safer and better off by remaining in the EU, Labour is on the side of local people”.

Prior to the dinner Tom Watson will be visiting the Alma Inn in Harwich which is Tendring CAMRA’s Pub of the Year for 2016.  This weekend is a special weekend in Harwich for lovers of real ale as the Harwich Ale Trail is taking place in the local pubs and Tom is keen to show his support for this community event.

“The community in Harwich is well known for pulling together and making things happen and the Harwich Ale Trail is a great example of this,” Tom Watson said.  “Ivan has told me that the Alma Inn is a fine example of Harwich’s centuries-old pubs and I am looking forward to having a pint there on Friday.”
