Geoff joins Harwich Labour 2015 candidates

20150131-IMG_0461-003As a result of being unwell, one of Labour’s Town Council candidates for East Ward has decided to withdraw from Labour’s team standing in the May Local elections.  Keith Todd has advised Branch officers of his decision and, as a result a local campaigner against Part Night Street Lighting, Geoff Smith, has been selected to take his place in Labour’s East Ward team.

At a packed meeting of Harwich Branch Labour Party last week members heard from four candidates before selecting Geoff Smith to fill the vacancy.

Branch Chairman, Charlie Powell, says, “Having already selected a full 16 strong team to contest the seats on Harwich Town Council it was fantastic to have a further 4 members seeking the vacant place.  It is a sign of how active and strong Harwich Branch Labour Party is at present.  It is a shame that Keith has had to withdraw but he will be delighted to know that his place has been taken by such an able candidate.”

Geoff Smith joins Ivan Henderson, Charlie Powell and Alan Todd as Labour’s candidates for East Ward in the May Local elections for Harwich Town Council and he is very much looking forward to the campaign.

Geoff Smith says, “The Part Night Lighting campaign resulted in me attending council meetings and I was amazed by what I saw.  The Labour councillors were the only people standing up for Harwich and it persuaded me that I wanted to do more to help.  I am very grateful to now have this opportunity to stand for council as part of a great Labour team.”
