Labour welcomes Jobs Plan but now wants action

The Labour Group on Tendring District Council welcomes the completion of the new Economic Development Strategy which was the brainchild of Labour’s Ivan Henderson.

After years of stagnation in which TDC’s Regeneration Portfolio holder, Cllr Sarah Candy, actually admitted at a council meeting that she had ‘no plans’, Ivan Henderson put forward the case for the creation of a single regeneration strategy compiled by an independent consultant and tailored to the needs of the Tendring District. Ivan’s plan was adopted and the new Economic Development Strategy announced at last week’s meeting of TDC’s cabinet is the outcome.

Ivan Henderson says, “It is a shame that so much time was wasted but we are pleased that the Conservative administration listened to us and accepted that what we were saying was the best way forward.”

The one area of concern is the statement by Cllr Candy that they will now have to look at their budget in regard to the delivery strategy.

“The leader of the council, Cllr. Peter Halliday, announced to the council that the New Homes Bonus would be used for the purpose of regeneration and that this would amount to £1 million,” continued Ivan Henderson. “This should mean that there is no need to look for a budget and that we should be able to expect immediate action in terms of delivery. We expect nothing less.”
