HARWICH LABOUR CELEBRATES LATEST ELECTION WINS!

HARWICH LABOUR CELEBRATES LATEST ELECTION WINS!2013-07-25 Malcolm Nicholson Fiona Powell 800

Harwich Branch Labour Party is celebrating its latest election triumph having taken two Conservative seats on Harwich Town Council in by-elections.

Labour’s Fiona Powell was elected to serve Harwich West Central Ward and Malcolm Nicholson was elected to serve Harwich West Ward in by-elections caused by the resignation for ‘personal reasons’ of Ricky and Clare Callender following Ricky Callender’s defeat in May’s elections to Essex County Council. This means that Labour now has 13 of the 16 seats on Harwich Town Council and holds all 4 seats in West Central Ward which, as recently as May 2007, had 4 Community Representative Party councillors.

Labour’s victories mean that Labour has now enjoyed 6 by- election wins in Harwich in the last 16 months along with taking the previously held Conservative seat in May’s elections to Essex County Council.

Leader of the Labour Group on Harwich Town Council, Ivan Henderson, expressed his thanks to the people of Harwich and his congratulations to Labour’s two new councillors.

“It is clear that the people of Harwich are responding to the work, commitment and achievements of our local Labour councillors and are turning to Labour every time they have the chance to vote. In Fiona Powell and Malcolm Nicholson the people of West Central Ward and West Ward have elected two talented and hard working councillors who will fully justify the faith that has been placed in them.”
