Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, Maria Eagle MP, will be in Harwich on Friday at the invitation of Ivan Henderson.
Ivan Henderson says
“During the 8 years that I was Harwich’s MP I brought over 50 government ministers to the constituency to see our needs for themselves. I’m sorry that this no longer happens but I still believe it is important and I am pleased that Maria Eagle has accepted my invitation to visit Harwich.”
Maria Eagle is Labour’s front bench spokeswoman for Transport and is particularly interested to visit the Harwich Connexions Community Transport Scheme which was established through the then Labour Government’s Market Towns Initiative.
“Harwich Connexions was the brainchild of Les Double and it is sad that Les cannot be here to explain its success to Maria,” continued Ivan Henderson. “The recently introduced Hospital Hopper Service was something of which Les was particularly proud.”
After visiting Harwich Connexions Maria Eagle will visit Harwich Haven Authority where she will be shown the hi-tech operations room and receive a briefing on the local port industry from Harwich Haven Authority’s chief executive.
“Harwich offers examples of success and concern when it comes to transport and it is important that front bench spokesmen see this for themselves,” added Ivan Henderson. “I am grateful to Maria for making the effort to see the issues first hand.”
