LABOUR PLEASED BY FOYER ANNOUNCEMENT

Labour councillors are pleased that their proposal to establish a Foyer for young, homeless people within the district is being investigated by Tendring District Council in spite of being voted down by the Conservative administration at last month’s Budget meeting.

Labour had proposed an investigation into establishing such a service with the funding being provided by saving £42,000 a year by removing the four Tory councillors from the cabinet who are overseeing departments that no longer exist.  This proposal was not only voted down by the Tory administration but one Tory cabinet member actually ripped up his copy of the proposal and flung it on the floor.

Labour was pleased, therefore, when the leader of the council, Councillor Neil Stock, responded to a written question from Labour councillor, Graham Caines, at last night’s meeting of TDC by confirming that a small working party has been established to consider the proposal.

Deputy leader of the Labour group, Councillor Ivan Henderson, says

“We are very pleased that this Labour proposal is being taken seriously after all.  The way some of the Tories reacted when we tabled this budget amendment it did not look promising.”

Labour is disappointed that, having put forward the proposal, no Labour councillors have been included on the working party but is pleased that Councillor Irene Tracey of Tendring 1st is sitting on it. Councillor Tracey seconded Labour’s original proposal and is extremely knowledgeable on the subject.

“This proposal is fundamental to helping the most vulnerable in our community and we were very disappointed when it was originally voted down,” continued Ivan Henderson.  “This is good news and we look forward to quick and genuine progress.”
