TORY HYPOCRISY SLAMMED BY LABOUR

Local Labour councillors have condemned the hypocrisy of the Tories running TDC after Deputy leader, Peter Halliday, announced that his budget would give a Band D household a council tax reduction of 75p per year.  At the same meeting of the cabinet the Tory leader, Neil Stock, announced that he would be continuing to pay four of his Tory colleagues £11,000 a year to oversee departments that no longer exist.

Leader of the Labour group on TDC, Les Double, says

“I’m sure that many residents will think it a misprint when they read that the council tax cut is 75p per year for a Band D household.  How can they play gesture politics at a time when they are paying nine Tory councillors to oversee five departments?  This council tax cut is nothing more than a political stunt that will not be enough to buy a household a single loaf of bread during the coming year.”

The £38,000 reduction in council tax across the district is less than the £44,000 being paid to four Tory cabinet members who no longer have departments to oversee.

“The Tories are giving 75p a year to residents and £11,000 a year to Tory cabinet members who no longer have a job.  Is this what they mean by we are all in this together?” continued Les Double.
