TORY ATTACK ON LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS

LABOUR APPALLED BY TORY ATTACK ON LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS.

A decision by the Tories running Tendring to scrap a Labour initiative which has supported a large number of community groups and sports clubs across the district is to be challenged on Monday evening.

The scheme capped the amount of rent paid to TDC by qualifying organisations at £150 per year but a decision to follow a right wing approach and increase the rents to full market rates will leave many community groups facing rent rises of thousands of pounds.

The decision is being challenged at a meeting of the Community Leadership and Partnerships committee being held at the Weeley Council Chamber at 7.30PM on Monday evening with Labour’s Ivan Henderson sitting alongside Harry Sheering of the Lib Dems and Michael Talbot of the Independent Group to challenge the decision.

If allowed to be implemented, the decision could see the Harwich and District Community Association having to find an additional £15,000 a year, the local rugby club facing an additional bill of £5,000 a year and even the local Girl Guides needing to find an additional £1,000.

Organisations such as the Harwich Society, RNLI and local cricket club are also affected and the implications for community groups which use our local facilities are severe.

Anyone who can attend Monday’s meeting to support Labour, Lib Dem, Tendring 1st and the Independent group who all oppose this Tory attack on local voluntary organisations will find a warm welcome in the public gallery at Weeley.

Please help us to make it clear to the Tories that this is an attack too far.
