LABOUR SEEKS TO PUT TOWN FIRST ON DIVERSION

Labour’s Lawrie Payne is furious that the self-interest of the Community Rep’s David Rutson is causing so much unnecessary confusion and disruption on Harwich’s roads.

Lawrie has the support of the Labour Group and the majority of Harwich Town Council in believing that the obvious route for the traffic diversion caused by the collapsed sewer in Main Road is via Highfield Avenue. Because of complaints by Councillor Rutson, who just happens to live in Highfield Avenue, traffic is being sent on a long and unnecessary journey along Fronks Road and the Kingsway causing confusion and disruption.

Now, with the Kingsway being scheduled for re surfacing next week, traffic will be sent to Harwich along the A120 and back up through Dovercourt rather than along Highfield Avenue.

Lawrie Payne says:

“I could not get Essex County Highways to change their minds and use Highfield Avenue as the diversion route. Everyone in the town knows that this is the obvious route but, for some peculiar reason, they will not send the traffic past Councillor Rutson’s front door. It is ridiculous!”
