Email from Gordon  Brown MP to Dave Mc Leod

Hello David,

I know that I’ve emailed you in the past few days but I wanted to take a few minutes out of my day to thank you and remind you about how important your continued support for Labour is to millions of people across our country.

Unlike the Tories who want to see the recession “run its course” our
Government has announced new measures which will allow households who experience a significant and temporary drop in income to stay in their homes rather than be repossessed.

I recognise that repossession, and the threat of repossession, has a
major affect on people’s relationships, health, well being and quality
of life. Which is why we are acting to counter as many of these
effects as we can.

Because in these extraordinary times, it is these bold and just actions which will help us build the fair society and make sure that Britain emerges from this downturn as quickly and strongly as possible.

For me, this is an issue that goes right to the heart of why a Labour
Government is worth fighting so hard for, and the differences between us and David Cameron’s “do nothing” Party.

Because David, the Conservatives really haven’t changed. They were
willing to turn their backs on the people of Britain in the last
downturn and watch homes being repossessed and lives being destroyed. And today, senior members of the Tories still call for the recession “to run its course.”

The scars of repossession are still borne by too many of our citizens
from the 1990s. It is a moral imperative for our party to give each
and every one of us the opportunity to fulfil their talents – and we
will not turn from these values when the going gets tough.

Where people genuinely need help, we will be where we always have been – on their side.

Best wishes,

Gordon
