Harwich in Bloom

£800 towards ‘Harwich in Bloom’

Following a request from the Harwich Society, Labour’s four Tendring District Councillors for Harwich, Les Double, Lawrie Payne, Garry Calver and Dave Mcleod have made Small Scheme Budget donations of £200 each towards this year’s ‘Harwich in Bloom’.

Under new arrangements, TDC has allocated £2000 to each councillor to assist local projects and the Harwich Society had written to each of the seven TDC councillors for Harwich asking if they would commit £200 to allow ‘Harwich in Bloom’ to enjoy the same level of floral displays as was possible last summer.

The Labour Group immediately agreed and, now that the funds are in place to enable grants to be made, the Leader of the Labour Group, Les Double, has submitted an application form on behalf of the four councillors and has received confirmation that the £800 has been allocated to ‘Harwich In Bloom’.

Councillor Les Double says:

“Harwich in Bloom has become an important part of our local summer scene and Labour councillors are happy to support it. We cannot speak for the three other local councillors but I would hope that all of Harwich’s TDC councillors would support the Harwich Society in making Harwich in Bloom 2008 a success.”
