Labour backs Harwich in Bloom

The Labour Group of Harwich Tendring District Councillors is pleased to support the request from the Harwich Society for a financial contribution to Harwich in Bloom.

The Tendring District Council budget for 2008/09 will, once fully scrutinised, provide each councillor with a £2000 budget to use locally and the Harwich Society has asked the seven TDC councillors representing Harwich and Dovercourt if they would consider allocating £200 each to enable Harwich in Bloom 2008 to enjoy a similar display as was possible in 2007. Leader of the Labour Group, Les Double, says “Harwich in Bloom brightens up our town in the summer months and the Harwich Society do a great job in arranging it. Our four Labour TDC councillors are happy to support Harwich in Bloom 2008 and have pledged £200 each from their personal budgets.” The four Labour councillors, Les Double, Lawrie Payne, Dave Mcleod and Garry Calver hope that the three other local TDC councillors agree to a similar contribution to ensure that Harwich in Bloom receives the level of funding that it requires for 2008.

The original project was the idea of Harwich’s Mayor, Dave Mcleod, who started the project with just six hanging baskets. Dave Mcleod says “I am very pleased at how Harwich in Bloom has grown and I hope that everyone who is in a position to assist does so to make Harwich in Bloom 2008 another great success. Well done to the Harwich Society.”
