Harwich Branch Labour Party has completed its selection process for next May’s elections to Harwich Town Council and is pleased to announce its 16 strong panel of candidates. With more than 16 members seeking nomination it was necessary to hold ballots to select the final team and the branch is very pleased to have a good mix of experience and new blood along with a wide variety of backgrounds and skills.
Labour regained control of Harwich Town Council in 2011 after four years of turmoil under the Community Representatives Party and, working in a positive and constructive manner with all elected councillors, is pleased to have rebuilt the reputation of the council and repaired the damage caused during the previous four years.
Branch chairman, Charlie Powell, says, “Since 2011 the Labour group has worked extremely hard to rebuild Harwich Town Council’s reputation which had been badly tarnished under the previous administration. The first two years were spent returning the council to where it should have been and the last two years have seen a lot achieved by everyone working together.”
The Labour team for the 2015 elections to Harwich Town Council includes a former MP, 3 former mayors, 2 former mayoresses, 2 candidates each with 20 years’ service to the council and 4 first time candidates. It also has 7 women in the 16 strong team, the most female candidates ever fielded by any party in Harwich Town Council elections.
“We believe it is a strong and capable team that, if elected, will serve Harwich well,” continued Charlie Powell. “We are particularly pleased that 7 of our 16 candidates are female as we believe women have been under represented in local elections over the years.”
