Labour delight at Horsley Cross approval

The Labour Group on Tendring District Council has welcomed the decision to approve the outline planning application for the proposed industrial site at Horsley Cross.

The application came in front of TDC’s Development and Control committee last night and, having been carefully scrutinised, was approved by a large majority.

Labour councillors have been fighting for this site to become available for development over many years seeing it as the best short term opportunity to create large scale employment close to Harwich. The proposal was fiercely opposed by the Conservative administration under its previous two leaders but, having forced through an amendment to TDC’s proposed Local Plan to include Horsley Cross, the way was open for the approval of the application if the committee considered it appropriate and last night saw this occur.

Leader of the Labour Group on TDC, Ivan Henderson, says

“We will never understand why the Conservatives fought so hard to prevent this great opportunity to create a lot of jobs but the important thing is that Labour didn’t give up and things are now looking far more positive. We need local job creation and the Horsley Cross site is only 10 minutes away from Harwich.”

The outline proposal includes a bus depot and regular bus services linking Harwich, Manningtree and Clacton with the site and Labour believes this means that no one would be excluded from seeking employment.”

“A job opportunity is only realistic if you can get to work and the Horsley Cross proposal includes bus services,” continued Ivan Henderson. “The proposal as outlined last night offers real hope for local people seeking work and we are pleased that the committee decided to approve it.”
